Thank You Fuse #8, Eric Berlin, Bill Keane & Friedrich Nietzsche
To predict the behavior of ordinary people in advance, you only have to assume that they will always try to escape a disagreeable situation with the smallest possible expenditure of intelligence.

I'M OLD, Part One (Who Reads THE FUNNY PAGES?)
I admit it. I can't read the THE FUNNY PAGES
in the New York Times Magazine.
Do you have to be under the age of 29 to not be overwhelmed when looking at these small-sized combos of words and pictures? I've enjoyed some early graphic novels. I like Lynda Barry, Harvey Pekar, and Daniel Clowes (except Daniel, what the hell happened to the movie version of ART SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL? What was that?). I like some comic books. Why don't I find these Pages interesting?

9/16/07 Update
Now I read the Funny Pages. My husband has been reading them for a while now. He enjoyed Watergate Sue. (http://www.nytimes.com/ref/magazine/funnypagesWatergate.html?_r=1&oref=slogin)

The Ox-Cart Man
I kept seeing Barbara Cooney's name today. It was on at least three different blogs (one posted by Grace Lin).
Then I saw Donald Hall on the TV. And so, I'm moved to post this link showing the many revisions of The Ox-Cart Man.

I love early Scarry, so I was interested to see this blog http://fusenumber8.blogspot.com/2006/10/pcification-of-richard-scarry.html about this link http://www.flickr.com/photos/kokogiak/sets/1425737/ and Scarry's Best Word Book Ever, 1963 vs 1991 editions.
